Dr. Robert E. Whitmore has been appointed as Denver’s newest medical examiner.

Whitmore comes from Florida, where he spent the past two years as Brevard County’s medical examiner. Prior to that, he worked in the San Diego County Medical Examiner’s office from 1999 to 2004.

Whitmore replaces Dr. Thomas Henry, who retired last June after 15 years in the job.

“Dr. Whitmore brings a wealth of experience to the position and will continue a tradition of excellence at the Medical Examiner’s Office,” said Nancy Severson, Manager of the Department of Environmental Health.

The medical examiner investigates deaths in Denver that are required to be reported by state law. The office is responsible for the certification of the cause and manner of death.
