Getting your player ready...

All you fly-fishing experts out there who haven’t quite gotten around to putting all that knowledge into a book, consider this: Tyler Befus already is working on his second. This doesn’t sound unusual until one considers that Befus is all of 8 years old and his first book, recently released by Boulder-based Johnson Books, appears on its way to becoming an instant hit. The title, naturally, is “A Kid’s Guide to Flyfishing,” and its youthful format, complete with Tyler’s own drawings, fairly shouts for others his age to join him in his favorite sport.

But don’t be misled. The information tucked inside is the real stuff, reflecting precise tutoring from his father, Brad, sales manager for Ross Reels in Montrose, and a rapidly growing personal log of fishing experiences around the world, which includes two youth world records.

Should you doubt, you’ll find Tyler among the featured presenters at The Fly Fishing Show from Jan. 5-7 at the Denver Merchandise Mart. The book makes for wonderful holiday inspiration for a potential young angler on your gift list. Priced at $16, it’s available at many fly shops.
