Aurora police obtained an arrest warrant late Thursday for the suspected shooter in a fatal robbery of a 7-Eleven clerk.
A national bulletin was sent out to authorities to be on the lookout for John Andrew Doubleday, who is wanted on suspicion of first-degree murder and aggravated robbery, police said.
They believe Doubleday, 23, is armed, extremely dangerous and has a “military training background,” said Aurora police Detective Bob Friel.
Investigators also are searching for Doubleday’s 22-year-old girlfriend, Amie Renee Lewis, who they said might be an accessory.
Police said they are working to secure an arrest warrant for her.
Doubleday and Lewis may have Lewis’ 1-year-old son with them, Friel said.
Investigators said Doubleday shot and killed 62-year-old Jutte Gallegos Burton early Sunday while at the 7-Eleven near 6th Avenue and Havana Street.
Friel would not disclose details of the investigation.
But he said surveillance videos and a $10,000 award offered by 7-Eleven in the case led to at least one person stepping to provide information to police.
Police warned that Doubleday is dangerous and should not be approached.
Authorities are urging anyone with information about the couple’s whereabouts to call 911 or the Aurora Police department at 303-739-6079.
Friel would offer few details about Doubleday and Lewis.
He would not reveal which branch of the military Doubleday served in or what kind of training he received.
According to the Colorado Bureau of Investigation, Doubleday was born in Louisiana and was arrested and charged with felony possession of burglary tools in October and misdemeanor failing to appear for a court hearing last month.
