There’s just something about trains and Christmas. But when it comes to entertaining the in-laws over the holidays, the Lionel goes only so far. Fortunately, beginning Wednesday, the Ski Train goes all the way to Winter Park Resort – and back. Departing Union Station at 7:15 a.m., the Ski Train is a great way for skiers, snowboarders and everyone else to enjoy a day in the Rockies. Once at Winter Park, passengers who aren’t interested in riding the mountain can ride the free shuttle into town to visit shops and restaurants. Alternative activities such as Sno-Cat tours, snowshoeing and snowmobiling are available before the train returns to Denver at 4:15 p.m.
Wednesday’s season-opening trip already is sold out, but the Ski Train has added daily holiday trips through Saturday before beginning its regular Saturday and Sunday schedule Jan. 6-7.
