Boulder – The Fairview girls appeared ready for the city rumble after one quarter of play Thursday, but Boulder junior Mariah Metoyer triggered a series of big scoring runs while the Panthers’ defense closed the door on the Knights.

Metoyer scored 11 of her game-high 18 points in the second quarter, and Boulder held Fairview to just two points in the third quarter as the Panthers rolled to a 47-29 victory in the Class 5A Centennial opener.

“I think we did it all on emotion, just because it was the Boulder-Fairview game,” Metoyer said.

Daphne White scored 11 points and Helen Hartman added six for Boulder (5-3,1-0).

Starters Tanya Thielen, Linley Miller and Paige Narum combined for 21 points for Fairview, which dropped to 4-6 and 0-1.

The Panthers trailed 12-7 before Metoyer sparked an 11-0 run, and then Boulder scored 17 consecutive points while Fairview struggled to score in the second half.
