Loveland’s RuSport racing team Monday re-signed driver Justin Wilson to a multiyear contract amid other changes to the Champ Car World Series team.
The team also introduced a new Panoz DP01 chassis and will have a new owner, Dan Pettit, and new sponsor, CDW. Wilson, a native of Sheffield, England, finished last season second in the driver standings. The team will test its new chassis beginning today in Sebring, Fla., before the first race of the season in Las Vegas on April 8.
Benefit on tap for Darrent Williams’ children
The Treo restaurant in Lone Tree will hold a tribute to benefit the children of former Broncos cornerback Darrent Williams from 5-9 p.m. Saturday. Williams was shot and killed near downtown Denver on Jan. 1.
There also will be an auction with sports memorabilia items from the NFL and NBA. All proceeds will go to the Darrent Williams Children’s Fund, which will benefit his two children, Darius, 7, and Jaelyn, 4.
Boulder archer headed to world championships
Boulder’s Max Van Pelt, a senior at Alexander Dawson School, finished second in the junior male recurve at the 2007 U.S. World Indoor Team Trials in Hillsboro, Texas, on Sunday. He will join the U.S. national team as a junior member at the FITA World Indoor Championships in Izmir, Turkey, in March.
