They sure are cute – the nine Colorado couples profiled in the next Colorado Expression.

Pat and Mark Miller (she’s the Gabby Gourmet) have been married 52 years. They met on a blind date when she was passing through Denver. He was so smitten he followed her home to Kansas City, Mo. – and asked Gabby’s mom to make him a fried salami sandwich for lunch – with mayonnaise and jelly. That’s why Pat’s the Gabby Gourmet, not Mark.

Ellen Robinson and Mark Schwartz grew up next door to each other, went to school together and have the pictures to prove it.

Judi and Marvin Wolf have been

married for 23 years. Judi says they met in a fairy tale, she was in a spell and he was a frog who kissed her and turned into a big, good wolf. That’s her story, and she’s sticking to it.

Julie and Larry Gelfond have been married 14 years – despite the fact that Julie says, “I never really liked Larry, I always thought he was very handsome, but also very arrogant.” Then she fell for him.

Cherry Creek North flack Christina Brickley has been married to John Brickley for nine years. They hooked up when Christina’s boyfriend threw her to the curb at a tailgating party, and John asked her to hang out with him for the game. They’ve been in the red zone ever since.

Stories

Chef Troy Guard, Westword editor Patty Calhoun, B’way impresario Bob Garner, former Frontier frontman Andrew Hudson and socialite Judi Wolf will have their lives acted out on stage in “Denver Stories,” a funder for Curious Theatre on May 9. It’s a party worth getting on your calendar.

On Guard

Troy Guard and Jim Sullivan’s latest restaurant is Oscar’s, a boxing-themed steakhouse attached to the Diamond Cabaret strip club. I stopped in with a pal Wednesday night – and the joint was emptier than a defeated champ’s locker room.

But I like the place. Lotsa boxing pics are on the walls (from Max Baer to Muhammad Ali) – and over the door is what they say is one of Rocky Marciano’s Heavyweight Championship belts. Step into the men’s room and the theme from “Rocky” starts playing: “Drop My Fly Now.”

Oscar’s is connected to the topless club, and it has a runway down the middle of the room in case some of the dancers visit at the request of diners. The hostess called it “the buffet.”

The steaks are perfection. Deeee-lish. And you can smoke a cigar in the room. A steakhouse worth puffing about.
