VAIL – Vail businessman George Gillett Jr., owner of the Montreal Canadiens hockey team, agreed Tuesday to purchase the Liverpool soccer club, a member of the English Premier League, for $430.8 million Gillett is making the purchase along with Tom Hicks, who owns hockey’s Dallas Stars and baseball’s Texas Rangers.
Gillett, a former owner of the Vail ski area, is chairman of Booth Creek Ski Holdings Inc., which owns or manages six U.S. ski resorts, including the Northstar-at-Tahoe Resort in northern California.
