LAFAYETTE, Colo.-
A man accused of ramming a car with his pickup and telling the driver he was an undercover officer was arrested for investigation of impersonating police and other charges.
Jason Salais, 20, of Lafayette was jailed Thursday after confronting a woman driving on U.S. 287, police Sgt. Bill Palmer said.
Police said the 26-year-old woman, whose name was not released, told investigators she had pulled over to let Salais pass after he flashed his lights and honked his horn. Salais stopped next to her car, rolled down his window and accused her of cutting him off in traffic, investigators said, quoting the woman’s account.
He told her he was an undercover officer and that she was under arrest, and when she tried to drive away, he blocked her car with his pickup, rammed her car twice and then drove off, authorities said.
The woman called 911 on her cell phone. The State Patrol arrested Salais a short time later.
Earlier, other drivers told Boulder County dispatchers that a man in a pickup was driving erratically, passing on the shoulder and waving a badge out the window. Authorities said they believe it was Salais.
Authorities said Salais had a security-officer badge from a New Mexico company when he was arrested. They said he was also carrying a business card from a Broomfield security business that looked like it had been photocopied and cut out.
Salais was also being held for investigation of reckless driving, driving under the influence, false imprisonment, eluding, felony menacing and hit and run, police said.
