Michelob Lager, $6.99 per six-pack
It’s the kind of figure you don’t forget. Michelob’s teardrop bottle, introduced in 1961 and dropped in 2002, made it instantly recognizable in a sea of similar bottles – and beers.
Anheuser-Busch is “going back” to the beer’s 1896 roots, and putting it in the familiar Michelob bottle, with a twist – “Michelob” embossed at the waist.
Michelob Lager, being released this week with its sister Michelob Light, is back in its 100-year-old all-malt style, meaning there are no “fillers,” like corn or rice, in the beer. The result is a much more complex, well-rounded beer, although you’d never guess it from its pale blond color.
A nice dose of hops balances the sweetness of the malt.
