Attitash, N.H. – Adam Cole of the University of Denver completed a sweep of the alpine events at the 54th NCAA Championship, winning his second national title in three days with a top finish in the men’s slalom Saturday.

Cole’s two-run time of 1 minute, 43.36 seconds edged Dartmouth’s David Chodounsky at 1:43.40 and Middlebury’s Andrew Wagner at 1:43.55. Cole on Thursday won the giant slalom title.

In the women’s slalom, New Mexico’s Malin Hemmingsson won the title in 1:45.77. Colorado’s Lucie Zikova was second at 1:46.00.

Dartmouth became the first Eastern school to win an NCAA team championship since 1994, finishing with 698 points. The Big Green most recently won a title in 1976, when it split the championship with Colorado. Denver finished in second place at 648 and Colorado was third at 592.

Utah’s 536 points and Vermont’s 400.5 rounded out the top five. Western State finished 18th with 78 points.

Western region teams had won 12 consecutive titles, and Dartmouth is just the seventh team since 1983 to win a title. Denver has won the most titles all-time with 18, followed by Colorado with 16, Utah 10, Vermont five, Dartmouth three, Wyoming two and New Mexico one.

“Nothing against Denver, but I was kind of rooting for (Dartmouth), because it will create a little more competition between the two regions,” CU coach Richard Rokos said. “Western schools had won so many in a row, if you’re going to have a rivalry, the other side has to win, too.”
