Quarterback Ian Hetrick, a redshirt junior college transfer, was forced to take every snap in Wyoming’s final spring practice and made the most of his opportunity.
Hetrick completed 20-of-31 passes for 269 yards, including TD throws to tight end Jesson Salyards and 55- and 71-yard strikes to wide receiver Hoost Marsh.
Senior backup QB Jacob Doss was sidelined with a recent shoulder injury and starter Karsten Sween was held out of contact all spring because of minor knee surgery.
“Ian was big time today,” Wyoming coach Joe Glenn said. “He had an opportunity to show what he could do, and he was terrific.”
Glenn cited defensive end Mike Neuhaus (two sacks and two tackles for losses) and linebacker Brandon Haugen (nine tackles, a sack, two tackles for losses). Cornerback Julius Stinson had a pass breakup and a sack, and Billy Vinnedge averaged 50.1 yards on seven punts.
Glenn came out of the Cowboys’ spring camp upbeat about the offensive line competition, where several positions are open going into August camp.
