Riley Nelson scored two goals for Colorado, but the host Memphis RiverKings tallied three goals in the second period to earn a 3-2 victory over the Eagles in a Central Hockey League Northern Conference finals game at DeSoto Civic Center. Colorado leads the best-of-seven series 3-2 and can eliminate Memphis on Tuesday when the teams face off at 7 p.m. at the Budweiser Events Center in Loveland.

Gila stage goes to Denver-based cyclist

Tom Peterson of Denver-based Team Slipstream-Chipotle won the third stage of Friday’s Tour of Gila cycling race outside Silver City, N.M.

Peterson, 19, of North Bend, Wash., led the 80-mile loop by as much as three minutes and held on to win by 10 seconds despite a flat rear tire. It was Peterson’s first win as a pro cyclist.

Fisher ends DU career as team’s MVP

The University of Denver hockey team selected senior goaltender Glenn Fisher as its most valuable player at the Pioneers’ 51st hockey awards gathering Friday at the Cable Center on the DU campus.

Freshmen Brock Trotter and Tyler Ruegsegger and senior J.D. Corbin each earned two awards.
