The University of Denver women’s golf team jumped one spot to 21st overall after Thursday’s third round of the NCAA Championships at the Legends Course at LPGA International in Daytona Beach, Fla.
The Pioneers, with a 54-hole total of 73-over-par 937, continue to be led by Emily Hoeper, who notched a 6-over 78 for a three-round total of 17-over 233. She is tied for 68th.
Two-time defending champion Duke took an eight-stroke lead in the team standings, and Purdue’s Christel Boeljon moved five strokes ahead in the individual competition.
Presley is state’s Gatorade player of year
Matt Presley, a senior at Class 4A Cheyenne Mountain High School in Colorado Springs, was named the Gator- ade Colorado baseball player of the year. Presley, a 6-foot-3, 210-pound third baseman, hit .502 for the Indians with five home runs and 11 doubles. He is now a finalist for the national player of the year, to be announced next month.
