An armored truck rolled off the Boulder Turnpike this morning, ending up on its wheels after severing a power pole.
No money fell out of the vehicle.
The driver of a Dunbar armored vehicle was westbound on U.S. 36 between Sheridan Boulevard and Church Ranch Boulevard around 8:20 a.m. when he tried to slow down for a traffic jam. He was unable to stop in time, so he swerved from the left lane across to the right shoulder and down a 30-foot embankment.
The heavy truck rolled over, crashing into a power pole, which was severed, and came to rest right-side-up, according to Westminster police.
The driver, Timothy Donofrio, 24, was treated at a local hospital and released. His passenger, whom police did not identify, is still at the hospital. His condition was not released.
Xcel crews repaired the power pole, and the armored truck was towed to a Dunbar garage.
Police said no money was lost and that the accident is under investigation.
