Edwardsville, Ill. – Its 540-foot elevation never changed, but this city of about 22,000 residents has stood in for the Mile High City of Denver – at least in one movie.

A film crew Wednesday shot a couple of scenes at a guitar store and elsewhere in downtown Edwardsville for the upcoming movie “The Return,” starring Tim Robbins and Rachel McAdams.

The film tells the story of three soldiers who return from Iraq, then take a cross-country road trip.

The location manager for the movie, Santiago Quinones, said Edwardsville will be portrayed as Denver when the film is released, but said producers picked Edwardsville for the filming because of its architecture.

Filming will shift to St. Louis’ Lambert Airport, which will be represented as New York’s John F.-Kennedy Airport and Las Vegas’ McCarran International Airport.

Shooting there is scheduled to begin Thursday, and continue through Sunday.

The movie is scheduled for release in December 2007.
