Baird leads in Public Links second round
University of Colorado’s Michael Baird shot a second-round 66 for a two-round total of 132 to lead the field heading into the final round at the Colorado Golf Association Public Links Championship on the Highland Meadows Golf Course in Windsor.
Colorado State’s Zen Brown, the 2005 champion, shot a second-round 70 and is three strokes off the lead at 135. Zach Zaremba, of Pueblo West High School, shot an even-par 71 Saturday and is also at 135.
Colorado guard to go against pro teams
Dwight Thorne, a sophomore guard at the University of Colorado, is one of 10 basketball players who will play for an Athletes in Action team that will compete against professional teams in Germany in August.
Former Regis University standout Craig Deaver, the Rangers’ career leader in strikeouts, signed a minor-league contract with the Seattle Mariners. Deaver will report to Peoria, Ariz., awaiting an assignment.
