Colorado casinos paid a record $112 million in gaming taxes in fiscal 2007, which ended June 30, the state’s Division of Gaming said Tuesday.
Tax proceeds for the year were up roughly 5.5 percent from $106.1 million paid in fiscal 2006, which was the previous record.
The mountain casinos posted a record $799 million in revenue in fiscal 2007, up 4.4 percent from the previous record of $765.4 million in fiscal 2006. Nothing extraordinary drove the growth, said Don Burmania, a spokesman for the Gaming Division.
“It’s continued growth in the industry,” Burmania said. “There’s only been one year where there hasn’t been positive growth.”
The only year gaming revenue declined was fiscal 2003, when it dropped 0.1 percent. A major blizzard that year cost casinos more than $6 million in gross revenue.
For June, casinos posted an 8.5 percent increase in revenue, according to data released Tuesday. The state’s 44 casinos recorded adjusted gross proceeds – total bets minus payouts – of $68.9 million in June, up from $63.5 million in June 2006.
Black Hawk’s 20 casinos had revenue of $48.7 million during the month, Cripple Creek’s 18 casinos posted $13.4 million and Central City’s six casinos brought in $6.8 million.
