GRAND JUNCTION, Colo.—A 2-year-old Clifton boy who died at St. Mary’s Hospital showed symptoms of shaken baby syndrome, a search warrant says.

Brandon Moore, the child’s stepfather, was arrested Thursday morning on first-degree murder and child abuse resulting in death charges. He was being held on $500,000 bail.

A doctor quoted in the search warrant, obtained by The Daily Sentinel, said Logan Acord had such severe retinal hemorrhaging that bleeding could be seen without special medical equipment.

Moore said the boy was hurt when he fell in the bathtub. The doctor quoted in the affidavit said the injuries were not consistent with a fall in a bath tub.

Moore told authorities that after the child fell and became unconscious he bit him and slapped him to try to revive him, the affidavit said. The child’s body was covered in bruises, the report said.

The boy died Tuesday, a day after being hospitalized.

A second child living with Moore and his wife, Stacey, has been removed from the home and put in the care of social services.
