CENTRAL ISLIP, N.Y.—A juvenile who police accuse of plotting with a friend to attack a Long Island high school pleaded guilty to attempted conspiracy.
The 15-year-old boy entered the plea in Family Court in Central Islip on Tuesday. He was originally charged with fifth-degree conspiracy, a misdemeanor, but his plea was for a less serious charge.
The juvenile has not been identified since he was arrested and charged in July, along with 17-year-old Michael McDonough, of trying to buy weapons to shoot people and detonate explosives at Connetquot High School in Bohemia.
Police said they found notes written by the 15-year-old about the plot that referred to the April, 20, 1999, massacre at Columbine High School in Littleton, Colo.
McDonough was released on bail after his family posted a $50,000 bond. He has also been charged with misdemeanor conspiracy, punishable by up to a year in jail.
His court-appointed lawyer, Robert Flick, has said his client was “barely” culpable in the alleged plot. His next court date is Aug. 6.
