Laramie – “Thunder and Lightning.”
Wyoming residents have seen a lot of it this summer with afternoon rainstorms.
But at the University of Wyoming, “Thunder and Lightning” is the nickname for junior running backs Wynel Seldon of San Diego and Devin Moore of Indianapolis.
“I’m not sure where the nickname came from. I think it might have been from them. But it is fitting,” Cowboys coach Joe Glenn said.
He is quick to refer to Seldon and Moore as “Thunder and Lightning,” and it always brings a big smile to his face.
Last season as sophomores, the two combined for 1,184 yards rushing and four touchdowns.
Seldon led the Cowboys in rushing for the second straight season with 610 yards. Moore added 574. They also are good receivers, having caught 35 passes for 227 yards and one TD.
“They were pretty good last year,” Glenn said, “but we expect more production from them this season.”
The 6-foot Seldon added about 10 pounds to his 218-pound frame in the offseason. He is the “thunder” part of the pair. Moore – the “lightning” – also has grown, though still somewhat diminutive at 5-10 and 182. But he is one of the fastest players on the team, having been timed in the 40-yard dash in less than 4.4 seconds.
