A 34-year-old Scout leader in El Paso County was arrested after he allegedly showed pornographic movies to a 13-year-old boy in his troop and then molested the boy, officials say.
Johnny Ray Barmore, who lives southeast of the Colorado Springs Airport, was arrested Friday on investigation of sexual assault on a child by someone in a position of trust, said Lt. Clif Northam, spokesman for the El Paso County Sheriff’s Office.
Barmore, who turned himself in to the Sheriff’s Office on Friday, paid a $10,000 bond and was released early Saturday, Northam said.
He said Barmore invited the boy to his house on June 12, showed him pornographic videos and then performed sex acts with the boy.
The incident was first reported to the Fountain Police Department, and the case was later investigated by El Paso County deputies because the assaults happened in their jurisdiction, Northam said.
Barmore, who is a U.S. Army sergeant stationed at Fort Carson, has been a Scout leader for 15 years while living in different parts of the world, Northam said.
He has no previous arrest record in Colorado, Northam said.
Barmore did not return phone messages Saturday.
