GRAND JUNCTION, Colo.—The Grand Junction City Council has agreed to join two state transportation groups that are working to relieve congestion on the state’s two biggest highways.

The council voted Monday to work with Rocky Mountain Rail Authority, which is pursuing passenger rail service along Interstates 25 and 70, and the I-70 Coalition, which focuses on the state’s main east-west highway.

The state has agreed to fund a $1.5 million, 18-month feasibility of the rail authority’s plans.
