Five friends of Denver Broncos player Darrent Williams say they identified three men involved in an altercation that happened moments before the cornerback was shot to death.

The friends, who were visiting Denver from Fort Worth, Texas, on the night of the shooting, told HBO’s “Real Sports” that they willingly gave statements to Denver police to help solve the killing.

The three men the friends identified are the same gang members who are in custody on unrelated federal drug- trafficking charges, according to HBO’s report, which aired Tuesday night.

Law enforcement sources have told The Denver Post that Daniel “Pony Tail” Harris, Vernon Edwards and Willie DeWayne Clark – all indicted on federal drug charges – are considered suspects in Williams’ homicide.

No one has been charged in connection with the killing.

Williams was killed early New Year’s Day moments after the altercation at The Shelter nightclub in downtown Denver.

The assailants passed by the stretch Hummer limousine that Williams was riding in and fired several shots.

Williams was struck in the neck and died. Two others inside the Hummer were wounded and survived.
