AURORA, Colo.—Aurora police say an officer killed in a March crash while responding to an emergency was not wearing a seat belt and had not turned on his patrol car’s lights and sirens.
Authorities say Doug Byrne suffered severe head and chest injuries and died about six hours after the crash.
A report released by police on Friday says the outcome may have been different if Byrne had been wearing his seat belt.
The report also says speed may have been a factor and noted that Byrne was passing another vehicle on the right.
