IDAHO SPRINGS, Colo.—The upper section of the road to the summit of Mount Evans has closed for the season.

The peak is Colorado’s 14th-highest and reaches 14,264 feet above sea level.

The road is often beset by snow, ice and winds in the winter. It is billed as North America’s highest paved highway.

The road is closed at Summit Lake, about 1,200 vertical feet below the summit.

Trail Ridge Road in Rocky Mountain National Park, which reaches over 12,000 feet, above sea level, remained open Tuesday. That road is billed as the highest continuous paved road in the United States and is shut down when snow and ice make it impassable.
