Russia’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced the appointment of an Honorary Consul General in Colorado – the first for Russia in this state.

Deborah Palmieri, who for 14 years ran the Russian-American Chamber of Commerce from Denver, now serves in this post to support Russian citizens in Colorado and to promote economic, cultural and educational exchange between the United States and Russia.

Offices are located in downtown Denver and in Aspen.

Palmieri said Colorado is home to more than 70,000 people from Russia and countries of the former Soviet Union. The population “is growing because there’s an extended family network here, and Denver and Colorado are very hospitable to immigrants,” she said. “It’s a state that really has demonstrated that, when people work hard, they can benefit.”
