The owner of a posh Cherry Creek hair salon is facing charges of shoplifting, after police say she tried to walk off with a $975 blouse without paying.
Phoebe Miller, owner of Phoebe Hair Apparent on East Third Avenue, was arrested on Aug. 17 at the Neiman Marcus store in the Cherry Creek Mall. According to an arrest document, a loss prevention employee at the über-upscale department store saw Miller pick up a Chloé handbag valued at $1,795 and remove the tags. Another employee approached Miller and asked her if she’d like to purchase the bag. Miller, according to the document, said no, and the employee took the bag from her.
The report states that Miller then took a TSE cardigan blouse — valued at $975 — from display and placed it in a Neiman Marcus bag. Miller then left the store without paying, according to the document. Neiman Marcus security contacted and detained her until police could arrive.
Reached at her Cherry Hills Village home today, Miller declined to comment. Local attorney Craig Silverman, who is representing Miller in the case, could not immediately be reached for comment.
Miller, 44, is described on the Website for Phoebe Hair Apparent as “arguably the number one hair stylist in Cherry Creek.” Her clients have included several members of the Colorado Avalanche and Colorado Rockies, and she was called on to style the hair of Queen Noor of Jordan, who was in town giving a speech.
Last year, Miller held a fund-raiser at her shop for East High School student Molly Bloom, whose leg was crushed by a limousine on her prom night last May and who had her hair styled at the salon earlier that day.
Miller is charged with a misdemeanor count of theft under $1,000. After being taken to jail on Aug. 17, Miller posted a $1,000 personal recognizance bond and was released. She has a plea and setting hearing scheduled for Nov. 5.
