AURORA, Colo.—A 6-year-old boy hit by a pickup truck was critically injured Saturday and a man was in custody after the boy’s family members chased down the suspect.

Christopher Gonzales had serious injuries when he was transported to Children’s Hospital, said Lt. Bruce Smith, an Aurora police spokesman.

The impact of the truck threw the boy some 30 feet, said Ricardo Flores, an uncle of the boy. Witnesses said the suspect, identified through a Mexican Consulate card as Ricardo Gomez-Carcamo, 26, allegedly backed away from the accident scene and crashed into a light pole and some bushes.

After being confronted by another of the boy’s uncles, Carcamo returned to the scene without physical confrontation, and was taken into custody. Another person in the car was chased down by the boy’s father and returned to the scene.
