Forth Worth, Texas — Colorado State avoided yet another fourth quarter collapse Saturday — only because the Rams never had a lead to lose.
For all of CSU’s talk about finishing a game, this time the Rams barely started it in a 24-12 loss to TCU at Amon G. Carter Stadium. Just as the Colorado Rockies could do no wrong in their 11-game winning streak, the Rams just can’t get it right in a two-season, 11-game tailspin.
When the Rams finally showed a pulse on a 54-yard TD pass from Caleb Hanie to Damon Morton, CSU couldn’t convert the two-point attempt and trailed 24-12 61 seconds into the final quarter.
The other negative numbers: an 0-4 start and 0-1 in the Mountain West, the eighth consecutive league loss.
The Horned Frogs, favored to win the league, improved to 3-2, 1-1.
CSU’s offense had its usual woes against TCU’s typically stout defense. This week’s mystery, however, was the defense’s inability to stop a TCU attack which until Saturday had one weapon in running back Aaron Brown.
The 0-4 start is the worst since Leon Fuller’s final team in 1988 team opened 0-6 en route to a 1-10 record.
