A passenger in an SUV died of injuries suffered in a crash Sunday night with a Denver police car.

The unidentified Denver police officer was responding to a “Code 10,” an officer’s call for help, when the accident happened at about 11:30 p.m., police said. Police said the officer’s emergency lights and siren were on.

The patrol car was heading south on Syracuse Street when it hit an Isuzu Rodeo at the intersection of East 17th Avenue.

The Rodeo was heading west on 17th Avenue, police said.

The passenger who died was ejected from the SUV.

The police officer and SUV driver were taken to Denver Health Medical Center, and their injuries are not life-threatening, police said.

None of the parties involved were identified by police.

The accident is being investigated by the police department’s traffic-investigations unit, along with the Denver district attorney’s office, a standard practice in officer-involved collisions, police said.

Denver’s independent police monitor, Richard Rosenthal, responded to the scene and will monitor the progress of the investigation to its conclusion, police said.
