Avalanche second-line center Paul Stastny is on pace for 219 points this season.
Okay, so the team is just three games into an 82-game schedule — too early for grand pronouncements. But Stastny has started the NHL season so well, the league announced Monday the Avs’ second-year player was its First Star of the week.
Stastny opened the season with a hat trick at Pepsi Center, just the fourth opening-night hat trick in franchise history.
Then he compiled a career-high five points, with a goal and four assists, on Sunday against the Sharks.
His four goals and four assists this season puts him at the top of the NHL scoring leaders.
The NHL tabbed the Islanders’ Mike Comrie its Second Star of the week, and the Predators’ Chris Mason is the Third Star.
Weiman moved down
The Avs reassigned goaltender Tyler Weiman to its American Hockey League affiliate, the Lake Erie Monsters on Monday.
Weiman, a former standout for the Colorado Eagles of the Central Hockey League, began the season as the Avs’ backup goaltender. He stopped all 10 shots he faced in his NHL debut, in relief of Peter Budaj on Thursday against Nashville.
