A 6-year-old boy didn’t let his inability to see over the dashboard thwart his dining plans.
The child pulled his child seat out of the back of his grandmother’s car, put it in the driver’s seat, turned the car keys and drove backward – into a power transformer.
The escapade did not injure the hungry child, who intended to traverse busy four-lane West 120th Avenue to get to Applebee’s, but it did knock out power to residents of Greenway Drive, said Sgt. Colleen O’Connell, Broomfield police spokeswoman.
“It’s unfortunate,” she said. “And he’s so cute.”
Broomfield police got a call of a hit-and-run crash at 8:29 a.m. Police arrived at the home just after the boy had fessed up to his grandmother, O’Connell said. He had figured out how to back the car up – 47 feet to a curb and another 29 feet into the transformer. But he couldn’t get it to go forward.
“He was very matter-of-fact” in describing the mishap, O’Connell said.
She said no charges will be filed.
