A woman who pleaded guilty after she was charged with leaving her infant in a bathtub while she ran to the store was sentenced to 90 days in jail and three months’ probation.

Krystleann Martinez, 20, was charged with felony child abuse, which could have required her to serve as much as 12 years in prison, but under a plea, she agreed to a lesser felony of recklessly and knowingly causing injury to a child, authorities have said.

Denver District Judge William Robbins sentenced Martinez to probation and county jail time this morning.

The charges allege Martinez left her home in the 1200 block of West 46th Avenue in Denver on April 18 when her then-9-month-old son was in a bathtub filled with water. The boy was barely alive when paramedics arrived, authorities said.
