GRAND JUNCTION — A Grand Junction sporting goods store is open for business as usual, despite a break-in and standoff Monday morning.

Police took two 16-year-old Grand Junction boys into custody about 6 a.m., more than four hours after the first alarm at Gene Taylor’s Sporting Goods. Authorities say the teens tried to steal 31 handguns.

A SWAT team surrounded the store after police saw two people trying to get out of the building through a window, then go back inside after they spotted officers.

The teens face charges of first-degree burglary, theft of property worth more than $15,000, criminal mischief, possession of handguns by a juvenile and obstruction of a peace officer.
