It may have taken a few games longer than expected, but Denver has come to learn Jim Bates is more than a stand-up gentleman with a thick skin. Bates is beginning to live up to his reputation as a renowned defensive coach as his unit’s improvement has helped key the Broncos’ resurgence.
Has Bates slept better in recent weeks?
“Oooh yes and no,” Bates said. “It’s just part of being a football coach. You go through some rut holes as a player and you go through them as a coach. It’s been an interesting experience, to say the least.”
