A teenager in Pueblo was critically injured when he was hit by a car as he ran across Northern Avenue, police said.

The 14-year-old boy, who was not identified by Pueblo police, was taken by helicopter to a Denver hospital because of the severity of his injuries.

The accident happened at about 4:40 p.m. Thursday in the 200 block of Northern Avenue.

The boy had run across the roadway because an uncle had pulled over on the other side and stopped to give him a ride, police said.

Melba Miller, 49, was the driver of the 1994 Pontiac Bonneville that hit the teen.

The accident remains under investigation.

Details on the boy’s injuries were not available.
