A 14-year-old boy was arrested after he allegedly told a friend he was carrying a bomb in a case he took to Conifer High School.
The high school at 10441 Highway 73 was evacuated at 8:45 a.m., said Jim Shires, a spokesman for the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Department. Students returned to class an hour later, after it was determined the case did not contain a bomb, Shires said.
The Jefferson County bomb unit responded, and the boy was quickly identified, said Jefferson County Sheriff’s spokeswoman Jacki Kelley. The unidentified ninth-grader’s locker was X-rayed, but no explosive device was found. Kelley said the device was a camera in a case.
The boy was arrested for investigation of false reporting of an explosive device, said Kelley.
A letter notifying parents about the incident will be sent home today by Jefferson County Schools, she said.
The student allegedly told a middle-school student on a bus this morning that the case he was carrying had a bomb inside, Shires said. When the younger boy arrived at West Jefferson Middle School in Conifer, he told officials about the conversation.
