Truckers and drivers of high profile vehicles should be aware of strong winds in the mountains west of Denver today as Denverites enjoy mostly sunny skies with a high temperature near 67 degrees, according to the National Weather Service.

Strong winds should blow mostly in the mountains and foothills. The Denver area weather should be breezy, with winds gusting up to 12 mph, the service reports.

The strongest winds today should be along the east slopes of the Continental Divide.

Winds gauged up to 80 mph were reported late last night and early this morning on Berthoud Pass and Niwot Ridge, according to the weather service. In the foothills gusts have been in the 40 to 50 mph range.

Winds, which are fueling the warm temperatures in Denver, should calm down along the foothills this afternoon and spill onto the plains.

Some high temperatures on the plains today will climb into the lower-70s, the weather service said.

There is a slight chance of snow in the central mountains starting tonight.

The Denver area low temperature tonight should be around the freezing mark. Tomorrow should be partly sunny with a high temperature of about 56 in the Denver area, the weather service said.
