After days of mostly tracking north of Colorado Pacific moisture is setting up to bear down on the state, raising the chances of snow in the mountains that could also stream onto the Eastern Plains.

Partly sunny skies in Denver today, with a high temperature of 56, will give way to mostly cloudy skies tonight and a 20 percent chance of snow, according to the National Weather Service.

Denver’s overnight low is forecast to be in the upper 20s and the chance of snow should linger until about 11 a.m. Thursday. Possible morning snow should turn to rain Thursday in Denver as the daytime high temperature climbs to about 45 degrees, the service said.

A chance of snow stays in the Denver forecast through Sunday with high temperatures over the weekend in the 30s. Weekend weather on the Eastern Plains should be even colder, with highs expected to be in the 20s.

Starting tonight the mountains will see a good chance of snow on and off through the weekend. The central mountains have an 80 percent chance for snow Thursday night, and a 70 percent chance Thursday and Friday during the day. High temperatures for Vail are expected to be in the 30s through the weekend starting tomorrow.
