It will be a redo of the Phipps Tennis Pavilion, and a membersonly look at the historic structure in Denver’s Belcaro neighborhood is set for 1 p.m. Wednesday. Dates, designers and all that other good stuff will be forthcoming.

Last summer, as you may recall, JSG leadership had entertained the possibility of abandoning the 33-year-old fundraiser — and outlined the reasons in an internal publication that landed in my electronic mailbox apparently by mistake.

I hadn’t realized it was privileged information until after I’d written about it. Between my column and the ensuing public dismay, members decided that the guild’s 50th year was no time to discontinue the popular tradition, if indeed it was to be discontinued at all.

“It will definitely be a fun-filled and exciting one,” past president Sarah Omer promises.

  • Running around after her young twins may have been just the edge that Kara Diamond-Husmann needed to shave two minutes off her Boston Marathon time and complete the New York Marathon in an impressive 3 hours, 19 minutes. That put her in the top 6 percent of the 40,000 participants and the top 2 percent of the women who ran it. “Ed and I are really proud of her,” says mom Pam Diamond, adding that when Kara isn’t running and parenting, she volunteers as a coach for Girls on the Run, a Denver-area nonprofit that uses running to help girls build self-esteem and avoid at-risk behavior It was a family affair when the Littletonbased International Ballet School staged four performances of “The Nutcracker” at Newman Center for the Performing Arts. While Haslam Ford understudied “Clara” and had two stage roles (one of Clara’s friends and one of the ballet’s two Columbine Dolls), her mom, Elise Ford, appeared as one of the party parents while her father, Mills Ford, danced the part of the grandfather.
