A heavy winter storm will blanket the state Tuesday, on the heels of a big storm that buried the ski areas with much-needed snow over the weekend.
Tuesday morning’s commute is expected to be slow and slippery, with the metro area receiving anywhere from 3 to 6 inches of snow, according to forecasts.
Temperatures will reach a high of 25 degrees Tuesday and drop into the mid-teens Tuesday night.
The eastern plains will receive some rain which will turn to ice tonight, then turn to snow Tuesday and drop anywhere from 2 to 4 inches through Tuesday night.
The southwestern mountains around Durango and Telluride could receive another 1 to 2 feet of snow, with up to a foot falling in Gunnison. The central mountains from Steamboat Springs through Vail and Aspen should receive up to 10 inches Tuesday, according to the National Weather Service.
As the storm moves out of the state Tuesday night, Wednesday is expected to be clear and sunny,
