DENVER—The Colorado Rockies bolstered their pitching staff Wednesday by signing righty Kip Wells and lefty Mark Redman to one-year contracts.
Wells’ deal is worth $3.1 million, with an additional $1.5 million available in performance bonuses.
The 30-year-old Wells was 7-17 with a 5.70 ERA with St. Louis last season. He’s 64-91 in 231 career games with the Chicago White Sox, Pittsburgh, Texas and St. Louis.
Redman was signed by Colorado in late August, going 2-0 with a 3.20 ERA in five games. Redman, who will be 34 on Jan. 5, also pitched for Atlanta last season. He was a combined 2-4 with a 7.62 ERA in 11 games for the Braves and Rockies.
Both Wells and Redman are former first-round draft picks. Wells was taken with the 16th pick by the White Sox in 1998, and Redman was selected 13th overall by Minnesota in 1995.
The Rockies have been targeting pitching over the last few weeks. They finalized a new contract with right-handed pitcher Aaron Cook last week, one that guarantees him an additional $30 million over three seasons.
The team also recently re-signed reliever Matt Herges and catcher Yorvit Torrealba.
