DENVER—Pitcher Mark Redman’s one-year contract with the NL champion Colorado Rockies is worth $1 million, and could escalate even higher if he reaches certain incentives.
The lefty reached a deal with the Rockies on Wednesday, along with righty Kip Wells, who’s deal is worth $3.1 million, with an additional $1.5 million available in performance bonuses.
Redman, who will turn 34 next month, can earn an extra $50,000 if he starts five games for Colorado, and $50,000 more for starting 10 games. The amount will increase to $100,000 each if he starts 15, 20, 25 and 30 games.
Redman’s deal also includes incentives in case Colorado uses him out of the bullpen. He’ll receive an additional $25,000 each for 20 and 30 relief appearances, and $50,000 each if he reaches 40 and 50 relief appearances. Redman will get an additional $100,000 each for 60 and 70 relief appearances.
Redman was signed by Colorado in late August, going 2-0 with a 3.20 ERA in five games. He also pitched for Atlanta in 2007. He was a combined 2-4 with a 7.62 ERA in 11 games for the Braves and Rockies.
