Grand Junction skier, 30, killed in Utah avalanche
The man killed in a Sunday avalanche at The Canyons Resort in Park City, Utah, has been identified as 30-year-old Jesse R. Williams of Grand Junction.
Williams died after he was caught in an avalanche at the resort’s Red Pine Chutes, his father-in-law, Jim Coe of Park City, confirmed Monday.
It was the first death in Utah this avalanche season.
An 11-year-old also was injured in the avalanche and is hospitalized at Primary Children’s Medical Center. The boy, whose name was not released, reportedly was in critical but stable condition Monday.
Williams, his wife, Gina, and their 2-year-old daughter Keely were visiting family in Park City for the holidays, Coe said.
Williams and his family have lived in Grand Junction for five years. Williams, an aircraft mechanic, was an experienced skier and a member of Grand Junction’s ski patrol, Coe said.
“He was a good husband and a great father,” said Coe.
Funeral arrangements for Williams are pending.
Gunman in Wal-Mart heist at large
AURORA — An armed robber who stole a lockbox containing thousands of dollars from an Aurora Wal-Mart late Sunday remained on the loose Monday.
The suspect entered the store at 5650 S. Chambers Road armed with a handgun and grabbed the lockbox, which was attached to a cart, from two employees, said Bob Friel, Aurora Police Department spokesman.
The man threw the loot into the back of a silver Chevrolet Silverado and fled.
Police spotted the vehicle and stopped it not far from the store.
“The driver bolted with the handgun in hand,” Friel said.
A passenger, Dejuan Lamar Tippett-Moore, 27, was arrested on suspicion of aggravated robbery and transferred to the Arapahoe County Detention Center.
One held, another flees after Taco Bell robbery
Denver police arrested one suspect Sunday in the armed robbery of a Taco Bell, but a second man escaped.
Two masked men fled the restaurant at 1385 Santa Fe Drive after flashing pistols and demanding money at about 9:30 p.m. Sunday, said Denver police spokesman John White.
One was apprehended, but a search failed to find the second robber.
“After a continued search of the area, officers did recover two handguns that we believe were used in the robbery, in addition to an undisclosed amount of money taken in the robbery,” White said.
Police also impounded a vehicle that may have been used in the robbery.
