A Colorado Springs teacher has been arrested on suspicion of attempted sexual assault on a child, and police say additional arrests around the country may result from the same investigation.
Randal Albert Gomas, 45, a teacher at James Irwin Charter School, had sexually explicit exchanges with a 14-year-old girl over the Internet, Colorado Springs police said.
Gomas made exchanges with the girl from his home computer and a computer at the school, police said. During the e-mails, which included explicit photographs, the girl told Gomas she was 14.
Police said the girl’s mother told them that her daughter had been “distributing pornographic images” of herself over the Internet and that she was having “sexually related conversations with a number of men” online.
Gomas was arrested Thursday. He was held at the El Paso County Jail on suspicion of sexual exploitation of a child, enticement of a child, attempted sexual assault on a child without force and Internet luring.
Investigators have contacted authorities in Minnesota, Alaska and Illinois about other suspects involved with the 14-year-old over the Internet.
