Xcel Energy began soliciting bids today for 25 megawatts of utility-scale solar-power generation.
Xcel said the generation may come from more than one plant and technology, and the location will be determined by the bids. The solar plant or plants are projected to come online between 2009 and 2012, the company said.
Xcel, Colorado’s largest utility, is working to reduce its greenhouse-gas emissions 20 percent by 2020 as part of Gov. Bill Ritter’s climate-action plan. As part of those efforts, the company said in November it plans to add 250 megawatts of solar-power generation in Colorado by 2015.
