Baseball’s CEO must go
“I’ve been telling friends for years that having commissioner Bud Selig clean up the steroids mess is the same as having the late Ken Lay clean up the Enron mess. The CEO has got to be the first to go.”
Casey, Lakewood
Kiz: I suggest Selig resign, and the lords of baseball promptly give him a contract extension. Guess that shows how much my vote counts. It also proves baseball owners would rather their game be profitable than clean.
Is Sundquist on thin ice?
“I noticed general manager Ted Sund-quist’s blog isn’t posted on the Broncos’ website anymore. Not to be a conspiracy theorist, but is there an unannounced change happening at Dove Valley? Compare the comments owner Pat Bowlen made regarding the mistakes made with what Sundquist is credited for doing (bringing in Jake Plummer, Travis Henry, Javon Walker), and his departure wouldn’t seem much of a stretch.”
Kevin, Windsor
Kiz: Sundquist has a job. But perhaps he has lost his speaking voice. After a late-season interview with The Post in which Sundquist gave frank, honest answers for the team’s shortcomings, his appearances on a local TV show suddenly stopped. Hmm, wonder why that happened?
Karl has no command of troops
“George Karl is not the man for the job in Denver. When you wrote, ‘Karl has not figured out how to coax the defensive effort or unselfish passing he claims are essential,’ it was something that needed to be said. I don’t think Karl has command of this team.”
Mike, Denver
Kiz: If Karl got these Nuggets to play solid defense on a consistent basis, they would now own the best record in the Western Conference.
Bad call might have impact
“No sports journalist has addressed the wider implications of referee Randy Schmidt’s bad call in Denver’s 3-2 victory against Wisconsin. This one bad call has the potential to affect the league playoff matchups for DU and Colorado College. We are also in the part of the college hockey season when the PairWise Rankings start to take effect. So, theoretically, this one bad call could even change which teams both DU and CC meet in the NCAA Tournament.”
Jim, Denver
Kiz: Hate to tell you, but Schmidt also blew a crucial call during DU’s 3-2 victory against St. Cloud State in December. Although the WCHA also apologized for that mistake, smudges on the league standings cannot be erased.
Parting shot
And today’s parting shot suggests why rock music needs a commissioner. If the job’s open, I can think of nobody more qualified than Rolling Stones guitarist Keith Richards.
“Why confine congressional hearings on drug use to sports? What about the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame? Shouldn’t musicians be tested for illegal drugs before being inducted? Get the commissioner of rock ‘n’ roll to testify? Who would that be?”
Bill, Parker
