Five people were killed in three separate accidents Friday including a Colorado Springs woman who was thrown from her Honda and run over by a Jeep during a snowstorm.
Edith Hinkle, 59, was driving south on an Interstate 25 frontage road at 7:30 p.m. when her 2001 Honda Accord spun on ice just north of Colorado Springs, according to the Colorado State Patrol.
The car crossed the northbound lane, flew down an embankment and then rolled onto the shoulder of I-25.
Hinkle was not wearing her seatbelt and was thrown from the car onto the left lane of southbound I-25 where a 1988 Jeep that swerved to avoid debris from the Honda struck her, the release says.
At 9 p.m., Michael Albert, 54, of Omaha was killed when his 2002 Isuzu Rodeo sport utility vehicle slid into a white 2007 Jeep Cherokee and a black 2005 Mazda 6 that had been involved in a previous crash just west of the Eisenhower Tunnel, Master Trooper Ron Watkins said.
Denise Albert, 51, a passenger in the Isuzu, was taken to Summit Medical Center with moderate injuries. Michael Albert was taken to the same hospital, then flown by helicopter to St. Anthony Central Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
I-70 was closed temporarily and traffic was diverted to Loveland Pass, but I-70 reopened about midnight, Watkins said.
On Friday morning at 2:30 a.m., three people were killed when their Subaru, traveling at nearly 110 mph, crashed in Louisville.
The impact ripped the car into at least three pieces and killed everyone inside.
The Boulder County coroner identified the three as Michael Martin Flaherty, 21, Amber Dawn Kowalski, 23, and Lucas Raymond Snyder, 21, all from Lafayette.
