The winner: Dick Michaud, Salida:

Thanks for the photo of a Salida landmarkthe two-holer, WC, outhouse, loo, bog that welcomed folk arriving on U.S. 50 and turning north on F Street, the gateway to our historic district. I drove past the place, and it’s been moved, probably to a warmer location. This morning’s temp in Salida was around 1 degree Fahrenheit, mighty cool on the crackers. Anyway, I’ve always maintained that the loo in the front yard made a statement about priorities and proprieties. Truly Salidian!

Here is a memorable comment I overheard in London years ago. I was staying at a B&B, and a fellow came out of the loo complaining bitterly that there was “no bumf in the bog.” Figure it out.

Brandon and Disrae Wilkins, Salida:

Ya’ll finally found the old “too wholer” on 1444 F Street in Salida, Colorado. Also noticeable in the front yard is the cow elk head amongst the aspens, always watching the traffic pass — even during hunting season. The owner is well-known for his quirky, but artistic talents. Always nice to see Salida getting its due. Keep your eye out for more wonderful stuff.

Kathy Caudill, Salida:

The photo in the Sunday Denver Post dated Jan. 13, 2008, of the Loo-vre was located in Salida at 1444 F St. It is a man who makes wood and iron items of unique likeness. He may have sold it because it is not there any longer.

Loo-vre update:

The “His & Her” outhouse, designed and built from recycled materials by Salida artist Allen Barnhill, and displayed in front of his home, was sold to a collector in Telluride.
